07/22/2007 - Atlanta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Willie Harris went 6-for-6 to tie an Atlanta record for hits in a game, and the Braves scored early and often in a 14-6 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals at Turner Field.
Harris, who tripled twice, finished with a career-high six RBI and also crossed the plate four times for Atlanta, which has won two of its last three games and nine of 14 overall. Chipper Jones added three hits -- including a two-run homer - and knocked in four runs for the Braves, who pounded out 19 hits in the contest.
The run support was more than enough for starter Buddy Carlyle (5-2), who won his fourth straight decision after allowing three runs on seven hits, with a walk and two strikeouts over six innings.
Braden Looper (7-8), on the other hand, was victimized for seven runs and 10 hits in just 2 2/3 innings for St. Louis, which has dropped two of three.
Chris Duncan had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Aaron Miles knocked in two runs for the Cardinals, who compiled 10 hits in the game.
The Braves broke it open at the start, putting up a first-inning run on Brian McCann's two-out single, then adding three more in the second.
Scott Thorman ignited the rally with a one-out double, and a Carlyle single put runners at the corners. Harris poked a base hit to left, plating Thorman, and after Edgar Renteria singled, Jones chased home two more with a flare to right.
The Cardinals got one back in the third on a sacrifice fly by Miles, but Atlanta made it 7-1 in the bottom of the frame on Harris' two-run triple and an RBI single by Renteria.
St. Louis continued to battle, as Albert Pujols singled to open the fourth and Duncan followed with a two-run homer that cut it to 7-3.
The floodgates opened in the home half, however, as the Braves scored seven times.
A pair of walks sandwiched a Kelly Johnson double, and Carlyle followed with a single, plating one baserunner and advancing the rest. Troy Pervical then entered the game in relief and promptly surrendered a three-run triple to Harris, an RBI single to Renteria and a two-run homer to Jones.
The Cardinals scored three times in the seventh. Miles reached on Chris Woodward's fielding error with the bases loaded, Skip Schumaker's single scored another run, and after Russ Springer went down swinging, Duncan's groundout scored So Taguchi to make it 14-6.

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
